Relationship between fatigue and internet overuse.

Introduction and objective: Most of the undergraduate students are addicted to intemet and this has adversely affected in the transformation of their routine
work. This has also been one of the cause for fatigue among youngsters and this study is essential to know the relationship between fatigue and intemet
overuse and factors influencing fatigue and internet over use such as health status, age, gender, course, years of usage, hours of intemet usage, no of mode
used, no of social network site used.
Methodology: Exploratory survey approach an(! descriptive co-relational design was used in this study. Sample consisted of 401 undergraduate students
from selected colleges of Dakshina Kannada District. Subjects were selected using purposive sampling technique. The instruments used for data collection
were demographic proforma, internet over use and fatigue scale.
Results: Results revealed that 53.9 % undergraduate students were moderate internet user. Majority of (78.1 %) undergraduate students were having
moderate fatigue level. There was Significant positive correlation found between fatigue and internet use (r = .369, p<.001). Intemet over use had Significant
association with gender (X' -8.663, p - 0.003), course (X' -13.433, P- 0.001), hours of internet use(X' -8.609, p - 0.014) for nonacademic use. Fatigue level
had significant association with course (X' -41.901, P - 0.000), hours of internet use for academic use(X' -6.686, p - 0.035) and number of social network site
used( X' -22.273, p-O.ooo).
ConcIusIon:The present study found that internet overuse had Significant association with gender, course, and nonacademic purpose internet use. Fatigue
level was influenced by course, hours of internet use for academic use and number of social network site used. There was Significant positive correlation
found between fatigue and internet use.
