PAVING INTERSECTIONS FOR DURABILITY

1997
The authors give reasons for preferring concrete pavement intersections to those made from asphalt material. Concrete's light-colored surface generates higher reflectance, making pedestrians and vehicles more visible. It is also a cooler surface in hot weather, because it does not absorb heat like a black surface. All these features offer a safer pavement for the public. Finally, there is no compromise of stability for durability since concrete offers permanence. Less maintenance means less disruption to the public and lower costs to the specifying agency.
