A Novel Redefined Electromagnetic Damping Equation for Vibration Energy Harvester

This work considered an energy harvester system with tip coil and a permanent magnet modelled as an equivalent SDOF system. The aim here is to adequately redefine the electromagnetic damping ratio of electromagnetic energy harvester from the established principles of electromagnetic transduction of the Maxwell's equations and the Faraday's law. The thematic focus of this work creates a necessity to independently re-validate the existing damping ratio equations when the magnet-coil configuration offers a low or a medium or a high coupling operational environment. The outcome of the revalidation procedure returned the material and thermoelastic damping ratio to accuracy as reported in selected literature while the electromagnetic damping ratio is not valid especially as the coupling approaches a narrow boundary between the low and medium coupling situations. The bases for the formulation of the redefined electromagnetic damping equation are the Statistical Theory of Losses.
