Degradation of Carbon and Graphite

This chapter describes the various forms of carbon used for industrial purposes and outlines their production and general application in the chemical industry and in nuclear applications. The basic electrochemistry of carbon and graphite is considered and their placement in the galvanic series explained. The high temperature oxidation of forms of carbon is considered and methods for protection against high temperature degradation indicated.
