Expansive Clay Suction Measurements Using Filter Paper and Polymer-Capacitance Sensor Methods

2013
Total suction values of undisturbed partially saturated expansive soil samples were synchronously measured using filter paper and miniature polymer-capacitance sensors. Soil suction-water content curves derived from enclosed headspace water vapor measurements were obtained for each method. Shrink-swell measurements were then correlated to the total suction values in order to demonstrate the applicability of either test method for estimating potential volume change.
