Anti-reflux Mucosectomy and Anti-reflux Mucosal Ablation

2021
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is one of the most common gastrointestinal diseases, and its prevalence is increasing. While surgical fundoplication is considered the mainstay of treatment for proton pump inhibitor (PPI)-refractory cases, various less-invasive endoscopic methods have been developed to overcome the treatment gap. However, many studies of novel endoscopic anti-reflux procedures are limited to reports that only demonstrate good short-term symptomatic improvement but lack long-term efficacy data and that report a high cost for the procedure. Therefore, minimally invasive procedures are currently not established as standard treatment.
