Three-year Results from Provenance Trails of Alnus formosana, A. rubra, Calocedrus formosana, Cunninghamia lanceolata and Taiwania cyrptymerioides

1988
SYNOPSIS Alnus formosana, an evergreen fast-growing alder from Taiwan, is a promising species for commercial afforestation in South Africa. Statistically significant differences in growth were observed between the tested provenances, but more research is required to make proper recommendations. The tested provenances of A. rubra, Calocedrus formosana, Cunninghamia lanceolata and Taiwania cryptomerioides did not prove suitable for commercial afforestation in southern Cape.
