Latino Fathers and Their Preschool Children

This chapter utilizes Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological systems approach to explore the role of the Latino father during pregnancy through early childhood. In addition, this chapter uses a strengths-based approach to detail the influence Latino fathers have on childhood development and focuses on the role the Latino culture plays in parenting, the effects of father presence, his impact on gender role differentiation, and father involvement in psychotherapeutic family interventions. Finally, this chapter draws attention to the critical questions that need to be answered in the coming decade.
