Electron diffraction studies of carbon stripper foils

1980
Abstract A detailed study has been made by selected‐area electron beam diffraction of the changes that take place when thin carbon foils made by d.c. glow discharge in ethylene and by the carbon‐arc process are irradiated with a 1.2 MeV beam of argon ions. The results are discussed in the context of the greatly reduced shrinkage rate and increased irradiation lifetime observed for the glow‐discharge material relative to the carbon‐arc material.
