Acidentes ocupacionais com material biológico entre a equipe de enfermagem de um hospital universitário de Minas Gerais

Objective: to analyze occupational accidents with biological material among nursing professionals at a university hospital in Minas Gerais. Methods: it is a descriptive, exploratory, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach. It was carried out in a university hospital in a city in the north of Minas Gerais whose sample was composed of 168 professionals from the nursing team. A semi-structured interview was used as a data collection instrument. The data were discussed using a bivariate analysis. Results: A total of 163 nursing team professionals, 21 nurses and 147 nursing technicians participated in the study. The predominant age groups were professionals older than 40 years (52.4%). Most were nursing technicians and female professionals. 67.4% of accidents were through sharps, 48.2% of professionals denied having received training/qualifications on prevention of accidents with biological material during the profession, 95.2% consider the skills to prevent occupational exposure important. Conclusion: Health professionals should adopt appropriate biosecurity measures to perform their daily activities and, consequently, prevent the occurrence of accidents. The adoption of these measures can reduce risks and create a safer work environment in order to directly interfere with workers' physical, mental and social well-being.
