[Bone fracture and the healing mechanisms. Fibroblast growth factor-2 and fracture healing].

2009
: Fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2) is a crucial regulator of bone metabolism with strong stimulatory effects on both bone formation and resorption. The potent bone anabolic action of FGF-2 has been demonstrated in several animal models including rodents and non-human primates. Our recent clinical trial has revealed that recombinant human (rh) FGF-2 in gelatin hydrogel dose dependently accelerated bone union of a surgical osteotomy with an excellent safety profile, suggesting the efficacy of this agent for bone repair.
