Prospect of optically pumped oxygen laser

O 2 -I 2 gas is irradiated by light near 500nm and further pumped by light at wavelength 1315 nm in resonance with 2 P 3/2/ - 2 P 1/2 transition of atomic iodine. A set of chemical and energy exchange reactions result in generation of inverse population and gain of 0.04 m −1 on b-X transition of molecular oxygen.
