For screw helical gears combined of steel/plastics it is of crucial importance to determine the worm surface temperatures, especially that of the flank, because they have a great impact on the material properties of plastics. According to the size the various temperatures are measured in different ways. The measuring forms the basis for equations which are compared with the measurement. By means of approximation the temperature of the gear's plastic wheel can be calculated in advance. This calculation presents an essential prerequesite to determine the plastics' strength values and finally to analyse the gear's load carrying capacity.
