Demonstration of 7 chromosome bands with DNA from Giardia intestinalis using field inversion gel electrophoresis

This communication investigates the conditions which optimize the separation of the chromosomes of a standard strain of Giardia intestinalis by field inversion gel electrophoresis (FIGE). Using these conditions, which involved a switching time of 135 s, a forward/reverse pulse motion of 2.5 to 1 and a running time of 92 h, the presence of 7 chromosome bands was demonstrated.
