The method of double going round the area with subsequent “walking” through this area is proved to be the best one of all the methods of ungulate census studied under conditions of a mountain afforested area. This method gives an opportunity to carry out census of all animals that are within the area, and this is the only one method that runs in the territories with a high population density of ungulates. The method is in going round the area of 400500 ha with cleaning out animals’ tracks with further “walking” through the area of census makers along parallel routes that also clean out tracks. After that those going round the area return to their routes and register all the tracks of ungulates. They register both ungulates that went out of the area, and those that remained within it.
