Kinetics and mechanism of visible light induced oxidation of hydrazine by peroxodisulphate in aqueous solution containing tris-(2,2′-bipyridine) ruthenium(II)

The rate of visible light induced oxidation of hydrazine by peroxodisulphate in the presence of tris-(2,2'-bipyridine)-ruthenium(II) [Ru(bipy) 3 2+ ] in aqueous solution is independent of the substrate concentration but increases with the intensity of light absorbed as follows: k i = k q I a Φ[S 2 O 2- 8 ][Ru(bipy) 3 ] 2- k 0 +k q [S 2 O 2- 8 ] where k i is the initial rate and other the terms have their usual meaning.
