Evaluation of Serum Ghrelin Level in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes mellitus before and after supplementation of 5000IU of vitamin D.

2021
Background:In the twenty-first century, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has become a serious global public health issue, with its prevalence increasing year after year. Abnormalities in glucose, lipid, and protein metabolism have been related to T2DM. Low vitamin D levels have been linked to the development of diabetes, as well as the protective benefits of adequate vitamin D intake on the risk of microvascular and macrovascular complications in T2DM patients. Ghrelin is thought to have a variety of biological activities, including regulating appetite, energy balance, and glucose homeostasis. The aim of study:The aim of this study is to compare the levels of the ghrelin hormone in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients before and after taking a vitamin D supplement of 5000 IU. Patients & Methods:From January 1st to March 31st, 2021, a follow-up case study was conducted in Kirkuk Governorate. The study comprised 60 diabetes type 2 patients who were given 5000 IU of vitamin D for two months and then had their serum ghrelin levels checked before and after treatment. The SPSS application was used to examine all of the data. Results:The study indicated that, the greatest mean of ghrelin was observed in T2DM before taking vit D (mean±SD) (73.3±.10.7 pg/ml ) compared with T2DM patients after taking vit D (mean±SD) (61.1±12.9 pg/ml ), the result was highly significant (P:
