Changing Industry, Transforming Lives: Social and Cultural Legacies

This chapter explores the idea that when work changes, then so does wider society. It does this by exploring the in-depth interviews that examined the lives and experiences of individuals who have lived and worked through the changes Teesside has undergone since the 1970s. The topics covered include attitudes to work, work and status, job security and whether people believe their working lives are better or worse than they once were. It also explores the themes that emerged from the visual focus groups, and attempts to make sense of the relationship between the past and the present.
