Youth Unemployment and Social Exclusion in Greece

2000
The interaction of Greek socioeconomic, political, technological, and demographic changes in both European and international events precipitated major developments in the country that affected social values and economic attitudes, behaviours, and functions that drove the state to an extended reconstruction of its basic institutions. International and national events taking place since the 1970s had, among other consequences, an unpredictable effect on the employment sector and the opportunities offered to young people for an effective entry into and participation in social life. Economic recession and the rise in unemployment were the main effects on an international level, that derived from the oil crisis in 1973. International technological achievements and political changes that later followed in Europe had further effects on the economy of most European countries, including Greece.
