Rate of cesarean delivery according to the Robson classification at Hospital de Mataró

2018
Objective: To determine the obstetric profile of women undergoing cesarean delivery. Material and methods: We performed a retrospective observational study of deliveries at Hospital de Mataro during 2000-2015 in which we compared the rate of cesarean delivery in 2 periods (2000-2008 and 2009-2015), overall, and stratified by the mother’s obstetric characteristics according to the Robson method. Results: The overall rate of cesarean delivery increased by 2.81% between the 2 periods studied (p < 0.001). The contribution of groups 2, 3, and 4 to this increase was statistically significant. Groups 1 and 6 reduced the rate. When each group was analyzed separately, the rate increased for groups 1, 2, 3, and 8. Conclusion: The Robson classification is easy and useful and shows which groups of women contribute most to the increase in the cesarean delivery rate. We are therefore able to propose appropriate obstetric measures to reduce the rate without repercussions on maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality.
