New modified empirical formulae for favoured and unfavoured α-decay

2021
Abstract Three empirical formulae (i) Horoi formula (Horoi (2004) [22] ), (ii) Sobiczewski formula (Parkhomenko and Sobiczewski (2005) [13] ), and (iii) Manjunatha formula (Manjunatha, Seenappa and Sridhar (2019) [23] ) used to estimate α-decay half-lives, have been modified with the centrifugal term in order to explain the favoured and unfavoured α-transitions. These formulae have been fitted by considering 398 nuclei within the range 50≤Z≤118 while aiming towards the lesser number of fitting coefficients. Our calculated α-decay half-lives by using these new modified formulae have been compared with the half-life values obtained by their original and recently modified versions. The half-lives of the favoured and unfavoured α-transitions computed using these new modified formulae are found to have much lesser root mean square error (RMSE) and mean deviation along with the excellent match with experimental values. Using these 3 new modified formulae, we predict half-lives of favoured and unfavoured α-decays for Z=121, 122, 123, and 124 isotopes.
