Environmental R and D needs for advanced power plants

1980
Environmental RandD needs of advanced power systems, such as combined cycles, MHD, fuel cells, and fluidized-bed combustion, are identified. Costs incurred by pollution control, particularly air pollution control, are determined. Pressurized fluidized-bed combustion has significant economic advantages over other turbine systems when environmental standards for particulate removal are relaxed. Specific RandD needs concern flue gas cleanup, metal topping cycles, and effluent control. (5 graphs, 29 references, 8 tables)
