BLOOD ATTRIBUTES OF SILURIFORMES FISHES FROM NARMADA RIVER, INDIA

Purpose: The current study intends to provide an overview of the fish diversity of river Narmada at Hoshangabad region of five stations. The fish diversity is correlated with biological and various physic-chemical parameters that regulate the productivity and distribution of different species of fishes. Methodology: The fish population is abundant and the majority of fishes are exploited for human consumption. In current studies, attempts have been made to collect, classify and identify fish of river Narmada in five different sites. The survey indicated the highest number of species 25 followed by Bagridae, Siluridae and Ophiocephalidae containing four each respectively. The highest number of species were observed on site four (47 species) followed by site two (45 species) site three contains 42 species and site one (43 species). Results: Various biochemical parameters performed and profiling of fishes diversity including blood profile and blood chemistry of tissue. In blood profiling total erythrocytes cont, total leukocytes counts, hemoglobin concentration, color index was estimated. In blood chemistry total serum protein, albumin globulin and total cholesterol estimation and serum phosphorus were estimated. Likewise biochemical estimation of tissue of liver and muscles was also performed. Conclusion: On the basis of present study we conclude that we found the variations in all the parameters related to blood attribute and biochemistry of blood respectively to different species.
