Counting the costs of patient-led propofol sedation.

I read with interest the article by Grossmann and colleagues1 exploring the cost utility of patient-controlled propofol sedation for endoscopic procedures. The benefits of patient-led propofol sedation for both patients and clinicians are increasingly recognised, so the author's focus on cost analysis is a welcome addition to the literature since expenditure is of primary importance to health care organisations delivering services.
