Comparison of liver scans using 113Inm-colloid and 99Tcm-phytate in a patient with hepatic metastases and enlarged spleen.

Technetium 99m-phytate has been reported as a suitable agent for liver scanning (Subramanian et al., 1973; Sewatkar et al., 1975). It has the advantage over 113Inm-colloid kits and commercial 99Tcm-sulphur colloid kits of only requiring single stage preparation. From dosimetry data (MIRD Dose Estimate Report No. 3, 1975; Sewatkar et al., 1975) it is clear that uptake in the spleen is greater for the colloid preparations than for 99Tcm-phytate. We feel that the following case provides an informative comparison.
