Evaluation of recycling and disposal options for batteries

1996
The environmental impacts associated with recycling and disposal of lead-acid, nickel-cadmium, nickel-metal hydride and sodium sulfur batteries are evaluated. A semi-quantitative scoring system is used to synthesize the extensive and diverse data available on the environmental impacts of battery recycling and disposal. In addition, uncertainties are characterized and features of the recycling infrastructure that could influence battery design are flagged.
