A dredger comprises the grab bucket used for dredging and a steel rope reel. The grab bucket is connected with the steel rope reel through a steel rope. One end of the steel rope is fixed on the steel rope reel. The steel rope reel unwinds or winds the steel rope by means of rotation so as to control the grab bucket to go down or go up. The monitoring system comprises at least one signal generation module, a depth detection module and a processing module. By detecting the working state of the steel rope reel, the detection of the working depth of the grab bucket is realized, so that the working depth of the r grab bucket can be accurately obtained, a worker can conveniently understand the working state of the r grab bucket, and the working efficiency is higher.
