Peritoneal Macrophages of Patients on Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis Show Alterations in Sensitivity and Secretion of Prostaglandins during Peritonitis

1990
Great effort has been made to reduce the incidence of peritonitis in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients, especially by means of technical improvements. However, it appears that a plateau in the frequency of peritonitis has been reached. The defense mechanisms operational in the peritoneal cavity are poorly understood. In this respect the mediators, secreted by and acting on phagocytic cells, could be an important factor.
