Temporal and Flexible Automation of Machine Tools

Today, loading machine tools in small and middle sized enterprises is mainly done manually by machine operators. Low quantity and high variance in mechanical components production require a high flexible automation process which is usually not achievable for contract manufacturers. This paper describes a concept of a mobile robot platform – consisting of a collaborative robot, gripping technology and an intuitive task-based programming system – which enables small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) to temporary automate the machine loading process.
