Multiple Observation Integration Approach for Sisar Imaging Radar Systems with the Purpose of Space Surveillance

2021
Shadow inverse synthetic aperture radar (SISAR) systems could be used for space surveillance. SISAR retrieves the profile of the target using a forward scatter configuration. The system could use a passive radar mounted on a CubeSat and a commercial satellite as the illuminator of opportunity. However, one of the main challenges is the low signal to noise ratio (SNR) that the detected signals might have. For increasing it, a multiple look approach could be used. By using a multiple frequency illuminator of opportunity, the radar system could retrieve multiple profiles and by averaging them together the final profile will have a higher SNR.
