Clinic study of nicardipine in patients with hypertensive emergency

Objective:To observe the clinic therapeutic effects and the side response of nicardipine in the treatment of patients with hypertensive emergency.Method:Thirty-one patients with hypertensive emergencies were treated with intravenous nicardipine for infusion duration of twenty-four hours. The nicardipine dose was 0.5~6 μg/(kg.min).Result:The blood pressure started to decrease when intravenous nicardipine was used for 10minutes, and when 30 minutes the blood pressure was controlled satisfactorily.Conclusion:Nicardipine appears to be a safe and effective drug for intravenous use in the treatment of hypertensive emergencies. Intravenous nicardipine can rapidly and effectively lower blood pressure and its side effects are modest.
