Correction of gamma-ray responses in borehole logging

2006
A system and method for formation logging with a gamma-ray detector in which gamma-ray signals are acquired using the gamma-ray detector, the gamma-ray signals having energies that span at least a first energy region and a second energy region, the first energy region including energies higher than a selected threshold and the second energy region including energies lower than the threshold; interference signals based on the acquired gamma-ray signals in the first energy region are determined and the acquired gamma-ray signals in the second energy region are corrected based on the interference signals to provide corrected gamma-ray signals. The interference signals may be caused by undesired neutron-induced gamma-rays in logging tools employing a neutron source.
