The invention relates to a method for overload protection of at least one bus station (11, 12, 13) in a motor vehicle (K), which is connected to an electrical system of the motor vehicle (K). If necessary, electrical decoupling of the bus station (11, 12, 13) from the vehicle electrical system can be effected by at least one electrical fuse (15). The invention proposes that the current (I) flowing to the bus station (11, 12, 13) is measured and the measured current value is relayed to at least one first evaluation and communication device (18) which can communicate or communicate with the bus station (11, 12, 13). Upon reaching a certain, first limit value for the measured current value at which an imminent overload or an unusual load of the bus station (11, 12, 13) can be closed, the evaluation and communication device (18) causes the bus station (11, 12, 13) to reduce the range of functions or their performance such that a current consumption of the bus station (11, 12, 13) is reduced.
