Swiss hospital lets terminally ill patients commit suicide in its beds

A Swiss hospital has agreed to allow assisted suicide groups onto their premises to help terminally ill patients die. Lausanne University Hospital has become the first in Europe to allow patients with incurable diseases to end their own lives from a hospital bed, but insists that people choosing assisted suicide must be of “sound mind.” The decision took two years to reach, said the hospital's legal and ethical director Alberto Crespo. And it has already reignited a heated debate over the extent to which hospitals and doctors should be involved in helping people end their lives.
