Los comicios presidenciales del 2000: Un eslabón importante en la consolidación del sistema político-electoral dominicano.

The article presents the characteristics of the electoral system in the Dominican Republic from 1844 to the constitutional and electoral reforms of 1992, 1994 and 1997. It also discusses the presidential election of this last May, the observation of the same by a nonpartisan civic movement and the swift conclusion of the election thanks to the agreement of the candidates not to go to a second round for the absolute majority.
