CAVITY SHAPE EFFECT ON ACOUSTIC REANCTACE

2014
The structure of a cavity is broadly applied in passive noise absorbers to adjust the inlet reatance, which is a key factor affecting the sound absorption performance of the absorbers. The performance of cavity in reactance adjusting is mainly limited by its volume. Large volume is needed to lower the resonance for excellent low-frequency noise absorption. This work introduces a potential method to adjust the reatance for better low- frequency performance by cavity design when the volume is fixed. The effect of cavity shape on the cavity’s inlet reactance is investigated with a 2D finite element model, and the corresponding mechanism is explained. In addition, the acoustic property of two parallel irregular cavities is investigated to study the inter-resonator interaction.
