A circular patch antenna using two-dimensional Photonic Crystal Substrate

2015
The Photonic Crystal Substrate (PCS), due to its frequency bandgap, can reduce the surface-wave modes significantly that have direct effects on the gain, radiation efficiency and directivity of the microstrip patch antennas. In this paper, a novel work used a circular patch antenna with 2-D photonic crystal substrate is studied and analyzed using the software package High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS). The results show that the circular patch antenna with a PC substrate has a lower return loss that gives us a higher bandwidth and a higher directivity compared to the patch antenna using a conventional substrate.
