Association of placental villous edema with neonatal outcome in pregnancies with histologic chorioamnionitis and funisitis

2005
surviving to surgical repair was 1.85 per 10,000 live births. Incidence by region varied significantly (p!0.01). The Central Coast had the lowest rate, at 1.24 per 10,000. The highest incidences were in the Mountain Region and Inland Desert with 2.69 and 2.80 per 10,000. These differences cannot be explained using maternal demographics including age, race, or education. CONCLUSION: Gastroschisis incidence in California is skewed by region of maternal residence during pregnancy. Further research is needed to identify possible maternal characteristics or exposures which explain this discrepancy.
