Determination of the absolute configuration of 3‐bromocamphor

2010
The absolute configuration of (+)-3-bromocamphor has been determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction, Br acting as anomalous scatterer for MoKa radiation. The absolute configuration thus determined is in agreement with that proposed by Fredga and Miettinen4 on the basis of chemical evidence: in (+)-camphor the “bridge” atom C(7) (connecting C(1) and C(4)) is behind the mean plane of the cyclohexane ring atoms, if the latter are numbered clockwise, and the oxo-oxygen atom is situated at C(2).
