Design and Calibration of a Linear Proportional Weir for Flow Control Facilities

The paper presents a procedure to design and calibrate proportional weirs for measuring and controlling discharges at various industrial or environmental facilities or for flood attenuation in detention ponds. Proportional weirs are unlike other outflow devices, by having a linear head-discharge relationship. The main objectives of the paper are: to design proportional weirs for a specified flow range, maximum channel depth and profile shape; to calibrate several shapes of linear-proportional weirs in the laboratory and to develop the discharge-head relationship for these measuring devices.
