TENTATIVE DESIGN OF SUPER AUTOMATED SHIP MACHINERY PLANT APPLYING DEDICATED MINI COMPUTER CONTROL SYSTEM

1972
The paper describes the outline of a tentative design for the machinery control system of super-automated ships aiming at being maintenance-free during one whole navigation. This control system is based on an advanced idea and well-matched with such areas as watch-keeping, maneuvering control and maintenance when they are considered as component parts of one complete control of a ship machinery plant. A 235 type turbine driven tanker and a 163 type diesel driven ore/oil carrier are chosen as model ships. This system consists of separate subsystems so that any combinations thereof may be easily selected according to demand by using dedicated mini-computer systems.
