Optimal communication jamming rate tradeoff for MIMO communications
2015
We consider the problem of simultaneous MIMO communication and jamming in the presence of interference. A multiantenna transmitter desires to reliably communicate at a high rate with a multiantenna receiver, while at the same time jamming the receiver of another team. This presents a resource allocation problem for the transmitter that leads to a fundamental tradeoff in communication rates. We derive bounds on the communication rate of each team and characterize the optimal rate tradeoff region using tools from convex analysis. We develop a novel convex optimization framework and algorithm for achieving all rate pairs in the Pareto optimal boundary via transmit covariance optimization. Numerical simulations are presented to support the theory.
