A Laboratory Study of the Effects of Carbonate Pore Type on Elastic Properties

2015
A study of pore type effects on the elastic properties of carbonate rocks is important for seismic inversion and AVO analysis in carbonate rocks. We present the analysis results of pore types and the ultrasonic laboratory measurements of the elastic properties of fifteen samples from the tarim basin under room pressure and temperature conditions and variable confining pressure (up to 74Mpa). The measurements show that the P-wave velocity, S-wave velocity, bulk modulus and shear modulus of the samples are substantially affected by the pore type. With the increase of confining pressure, the increment of P-wave velocity, S-wave velocity, bulk modulus and shear modulus of the samples with stylolite is largest, while the increment of the elastic properties of the samples with intraparticle pore is least.
