Tradições, Identidades e Indefinições do Poder Público: a Trama de Tensões em Comunidades Quilombolas do Estado de São Paulo

The Quilombo Communities, formed over centuries, established forms of social and productive organization, its a peculiar population. These are social groups linked by kinship, as a form of resistance and survival over generations, strengthened a way of life based on community and relationship with the land. Access to land is forward as the main element for the reproduction of the material and immaterial life of such groups. Still, the process of settlement of territories in the State of Sao Paulo, although guaranteed by state and federal laws, faces serious limitations. Accordingly, this article aims to discuss territorial disputes involving such communities and the interface established with their development, addressing the social, cultural, economic and environmental realities in these intertwined.
