The Physico-mechanical Properties of Pleioblastus amarus Bamboo Wood
2005
The physico-mechanical properties of Pleioblastus amarus wood were determined, and the relationship between the age of bamboo plants and the physico-mechanical properties of the Pleioblastus amarus wood was explored by regressive analyses. It was showed by the results that the bamboo age had a remarkable effect on the wood's physico-mechanical properties. The radial, chord and volume shrinkage coefficients of Pleioblastus amarus bamboo wood decreased gradually with the age increment, whereas the air-dried density, compression strength parallel to the grain, tensile strength parallel to the grain, and the bending strength increased with the age increment, and these indexes seemed to become relatively stable by the age of 3 to 5 years old.It was demonstrated that the moisture content and the desiccation shrinkage coefficient dropped gradually, while the air-dried density and mechanical strength increased correspondingly from the bottom to the top of the bamboo wood
