A RATIONAL BASIS FOR HULL-ICE STRENGTHENING CRITERIA

1981
Several classification societies and various government regulations provide guidelines for strengthening of ice-transiting ships. However, there are inconsistencies among these different guidelines, and ships have suffered hull damage from ice while operating in zones for which they were supposedly strengthened adequately. This paper reports on the results of a study to develop the basis for rational selection of ice strengthening criteria for vessels.
