Voltage rise suppression by use of power factor correction converters controlled by improved sawtooth wave multiplication method

2017
Reactive power control by loads is one of the methods to control voltage in distribution lines. The authors improved reactive power control method by use of power factor correction converters which are often used in loads. The method modifies input current reference by multiplying sawtooth wave and controls reactive power by changing slope of sawtooth wave. It was confirmed that the method can control distribution line voltage. Three types of voltage control methods were introduced to decide reactive power controlled by proposed method. Voltage control ability, stability were evaluated and compared by simulations. It was confirmed that all voltage control methods can control distribution voltage. One method was not stable in some conditions, other methods were stable in the conditions of the simulations. The proposed methods have a possibility to be introduced to loads and to reduce additional cost to install reactive power control equipment.
