Brookhaven national laboratory 80″ hydrogen bubble chamber status and plans☆

1963
A hydrogen bubble chamber, 80" x 27" x 28", is under construction for use with the Brookhaven AGS. Unique features in its design include the following: a magnet yoke and vacuum chamber so integrated that the magnet coils can be supported without the usual heavy coil boxes; large stainless steel beam windows in both chamber and vacuum chamber; a piston fabricated of Inconel honeycomb; a temperature shield consisting of multilayers of aluminized Mylar sheets; an optical system designed to eliminate reflection from the main chamber window. The present status of the chamber is shown by a series of photographs, and future plans are described briefly. (A.G.W.)
