The Analysis and Representation of Speech

2004
The basic concepts of speech production and analysis have been described. Speech is an acoustic signal produced by air pressure changes originating from the vocal production system s. The anatomical, physiological, and functional aspects of this process have been discussed from a quantitative perspective. With a description of various models of speech production, we have provided background information with which to understand the different components found in speech and the relevance of this knowledge for the design of analysis techniques.
