Standardized total fertility rates by prefectures

1983
Data on standardized total fertility rates in Japan by prefecture are presented. A table shows 7 age divisions of women ranging from 15-49 on the national level as well as in Tokyo. The ratio of married females to total number of females in the nation then the ratio of the number of births in Tokyo to the number of married females in Tokyo and finally the ratio of the former to the latter are calculated. Data indicating normal and standard fertility rates in 1970 1972 1975 and 1980 are given for the nation as well as for each prefecture in Japan. Another table gives normal and standard fertility rates for the nation and each prefecture in 1972 1977 1982 and 1987. Using these data the maximum and minimum normal as well as standardized total fertility rates for 1970 1975 and 1980 are presented in addition to the distribution ranges averages standard deviations and fluctuation coefficients. In 1980 the Okinawa prefecture had the maximum normal (2.378) and standardize (2.376) total fertility rates Tokyo had the minimum normal fertility rate (1.437) and Toyama had the minimum standardized fertility rate (1.562). In 1980 the average standardized fertility rate in Japan was 1.781 the distribution range was .814 the standard deviation was .145 and the fluctuation coefficient was 8.1%.
